X Report: Rogers wins super mass
ESPN.com

SAN FRANCISCO -- Designing your own luges can result in major improvements on the street. Just ask David Rogers, who won the street luge super mass Sunday at Seal Rock Run.

Rogers, who beat Biker Sherlock in the final, won his first X Games gold medal. But the real story was just how big of an upset Rogers' victory was over Sherlock, a three-time X Games gold medalist.

Rogers' best finish before Sunday was was 21st in last summer's Games in San Diego. In 1997, the 36-year-old mechanical engineer finished 32nd in the super mass.

But Rogers has been busy designing his own luges and it paid off in the City by the Bay.

"We can design and build what we want, instead of having to use what is out there," Rogers said.

Rogers took advantage of the Cliff House turn and gained speed to past Sherlock about 75 feet from the finish line. Sherlock won bronze in the dual event on Saturday.

"I'm stoked. I'm going home with a silver. I've got two medals. I don't think anyone else is going home with two medals (in luge)," Sherlock said. "I went around that last corner and scuffed a little. I was like, 'Oops, Dave's going by me.'"

Sean Slate stuck his foot out to edge Bob Pereyra for the bronze medal. Pereyra finished second last year.

Sharma leads men's boulder qualifying
Chris Sharma is making a comeback.

After sitting out last summer's X Games because of an ACL injury, Sharma is the current leader after the semifinal round of the sport climbing bouldering competition with a score of 88.30. Sharma, along with seven other qualifiers, will compete in Monday's finals.

Sharma, 18, was a bronze medalist in the 1997 X Games on the difficulty wall. Most recently, the young professional climber won the Rockreation Boulderblast in Salt Lake City.

Daniel Du Lac of France is the No. 2 qualifier in this new X Games event while, Russian Salavat Rakhmetov qualified third.

Brown among perfect women climbers
Five women -- Liv Sansoz, Jylia Inozemtseva, Elena Choumilova, Katie Brown and Stephanie Bodet -- all reached the peak of the four sport climbing bouldering routes to record perfect scores of 100 in the semifinal round of competition.

The five, along with three others, will advance to Monday's final round.

Brown, one of the most popular athletes in the X Games, has won the past three gold medals on the Difficulty walls.
